<p><strong>Mumbai: </strong>The sudden surge in Covid-19 cases has become very concerning for the people of Mumbai. The city's mayor <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Kishori Pednekar, pointed at the possiblity of another lockdown if the cases keep surging and people don't follow precautions set by the government. </span></p> <p><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">'</span>It's a matter of concern. Most people travelling in trains don't wear masks. People must take precautions else we'd head towards another lockdown. The health department said that Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 95.7 per cent, while the fatality rate was recorded at 2.5 per cent.<br />The sudden surge in cases has instilled fear in Mumbaikars. The government has asked the people to continue following the Covid guidelines which include wearing masks in public places, keeping a 6 ft distance and washing hands regularly. The state which had been reporting the highest number of cases, on Sunday reported 40 coronavirus-related deaths, which pushed the death toll count to 51,529.</p> <article class="article-content live-blog"> <div class="article-text-wrapper"> <div class="article-text"> <p>According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 37383 active cases, and a total of 51552 deaths.</p> <p>Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka cumulatively account for 77 percent of India’s total active cases. On Monday, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced the people above 50 years of age will be administered the coronavirus vaccine from next month. <br />“We will be in a situation to administer vaccines to those above 50 years of age in March,” he said, adding no new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country’s 188 districts in the last seven days.</p> </div> </div> </article>
