Mumbai Mayor Hints At Another Lockdown In The City As Covid Cases Surge

<p><strong>Mumbai: </strong>The sudden surge in Covid-19 cases has become very concerning for the people of Mumbai. The city's mayor <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Kishori Pednekar, pointed at the possiblity of another lockdown if the cases keep surging and people don't follow precautions set by the government. </span></p> <p><span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">'</span>It's a matter of concern. Most people travelling in trains don't wear masks. People must take precautions else we'd head towards another lockdown. The health department said that Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 95.7 per cent, while the fatality rate was recorded at 2.5 per cent.<br />The sudden surge in cases has instilled fear in Mumbaikars. The government has asked the people to continue following the Covid guidelines which include wearing masks in public places, keeping a 6 ft distance and washing hands regularly. The state which had been reporting the highest number of cases, on Sunday reported 40 coronavirus-related deaths, which pushed the death toll count to 51,529.</p> <article class="article-content live-blog"> <div class="article-text-wrapper"> <div class="article-text"> <p>According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 37383 active cases, and a total of 51552 deaths.</p> <p>Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka cumulatively account for 77 percent of India&rsquo;s total active cases. On Monday, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced the people above 50 years of age will be administered the coronavirus vaccine from next month. <br />&ldquo;We will be in a situation to administer vaccines to those above 50 years of age in March,&rdquo; he said, adding no new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the country&rsquo;s 188 districts in the last seven days.</p> </div> </div> </article>
